Welcome to the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The VPAA is the university’s chief academic officer, reports directly to TLU President Dr. Debbie Cottrell and serves as a member of the senior leadership team on the President’s Cabinet.
Dr. Annette Citzler, Interim VP for Academic Affairs
Effective July 1, 2019, Dr. Annette Citzler began her role as interim VPAA. Since 1977, Dr. Citzler has been a faculty member in TLU's Business and Economics Department. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from TLU, a master’s degree in economics from The University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University.
In her distinguished career at TLU, Dr. Citzler has been in roles as a dean, a department chair, and she has held the Claryce M. Bohls Endowed Professorship in Economics. She has been closely involved in several international education initiatives, led university-wide discussions on the meaning of the liberal arts, and has been awarded a prestigious statewide Piper Professor teaching award. Outside of TLU, Dr. Citzler has been active in numerous ELCA initiatives and serves on the board of the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation. She is also chair of the search committee to seek a permanent VPAA.
The VPAA provides leadership for the faculty and guidance over academic programs and curriculum. She also works closely with faculty committees, oversees faculty appointments and works closely with the faculty on new initiatives to ensure academic excellence and growth. She also supervises the Office of Registration and Records, the Jon & Sandra Moline Center for Servant Leadership, Information Technology, International Education and Library Services. The VPAA’s primary responsibility is ensuring the quality of TLU’s academic programs, recruiting and hiring outstanding faculty members and guiding the university toward its mission to serve as a community of faith and learning.
