RENT’s Anthony Rapp Joins TLU for Screening as Artist in Residence
March 30, 2011
The Texas Lutheran University (TLU) School of Music welcomes artist in residence, film and stage actor, Anthony Rapp. Perhaps best known for originating the role of Mark Cohen in the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning Broadway production of RENT, he has also appeared in television and film. Rapp will be working with the Music Theatre Class, the TLU Choirs, music students and dramatic media students during his time on campus. In addition, there will be a free screening of the film version of RENT, starring Anthony Rapp as Mark Cohen, on Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium. Rapp will be available for a question and answer session after the screening. This screening is free and open to the public.
Rapp made his film debut at the age of 15 with the lead role in Adventures in Babysitting. Some of his other film work includes: Dazed and Confused, Road Trip, A Beautiful Mind and the film version of RENT. In 2010, his New York Times best-selling memoir Without You became the basis for a one man show which depicts his turbulent journey through the convergence of two life-changing events: the early days of RENT – including the untimely passing of Jonathan Larson, and the illness and death of his own mother. Rapp uses a mix of original music and songs by R.E.M. and Larson in a compelling one-man show about grief, hope, and triumph, based on his best-selling memoir.
The entire community is invited to the free screening of RENT on Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium. This film is rated PG-13. For more information, visit www.tlu.edu.
